I am no stranger to using a sock as a hair device. Some girls stuffed their bras, I stuffed my hair. As a teenager socks stood in when I wanted to rock a style that required a little bit of filler. You used what you had on hand and your friends were none the wiser. But now the sock secret is out and the sock bun is more popular now than ever! So, I decided to give it a shot and I'm happy to say I love it just as much now as I did then. Now I am of limited hair skills (Though I do know how to do a mean weave ponytail, which I may share with you in a future post….)But this is so easy, I can do it in seconds. Which is most important now that I'm a mommy and I don't have all morning to decide what I want to do with my hair. And since my sock collection rivals that of an eight year old I "borrowed" a pair of my husbands ( aka my Boo) bulky black socks to create my look (sorry honey).
Here's my instructions for the Boo Bun in 4 steps:
1) Sneak into your Boo's sock drawer and look for a pair of his chunkiest socks as close to your hair color as possible. It's summer so he shouldn't miss them, but if he does just use the old they got lost in the laundry excuse
2) Then turn to ESPN, while your Boo is distracted cut off the toe end of the sock and roll it down to make a "donut"
3) Gather your hair into a high ponytail and hold the end high, place your doughnut at the top and roll down tucking hair as you go till you get to the bottom.
4) Then Presto!! You've got a perfect sock bun that doesn't need one bobby pin!
Now wait for your Boo to comment on how pretty you look, smile, then go out a buy him a new pack of socks to replace the ones you cut.
He is your Boo after all!
