What's old is well.....old, but in the world of fashion that's often a good thing. Like Christopher Bailey of Burberry, designer Nicholas Ghesquiere drew inspiration from the Balenciaga archives for Resort 2011. What came to my mind was growing up watching Threes Company reruns, I thought Mr. Furley had the dopest leisure suit combos alive. That's what this collection reminds of, the bold sharp dressing of the 60s. The fabrics and cuts are different, more modern for the younger consumer. The shirts may not have butterflied collars and the pants aren't bellbottoms, but the history is there. The suits page homage to uniforms Mr.Balenciaga designed for Pan Am flight attendants in the 1960's.
Ghesquiere doesn't forget about the shoes. The heels are chunky with wide straps, very retro and my new favorite shoe, the bootie gets loose in a slouchy print. Love your skirt? There are shoes to match. And even if matching is not your thing, these are fierce shoes for any outfit. Flashback Fierce!!
